HOW IMPORTANT IS INSULATION?
Put it this way: the ventilation ducts in your home, when improperly insulated, can lose up to 30% of the energy you pay for to heat and cool your home. In the winter, cold blow can occur when heat is lost through ventilation surfaces by induction, causing some rooms in your home to fall far below the temperature on your thermostat. In the summer, the added cost to your heating bill will far outweigh the one-time insulation cost of attic insulation, fiberglass insulation, batt insulation or home insulation replacement.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY INSULATION IS DAMAGED OR CONTAMINATED?
Often, you donʼt. If there is any sign of a roof leak, wet or damp interior, burst pipe, rain weather damage, improper ventilation, or animal infestation, then insulation damage or contamination can result. Animals can leave feces, urine, musk, grease and other bodily fluids and oils behind, along with nests and holes in roofs and walls. All these factors can lead to attic mold and attic mildew, and compromised fiberglass insulation, batt insulation, attic insulation or other insulating material. Even in the hottest, driest parts of Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, San Francisco County, Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Marin County, and Solano County small amounts of moisture can lead to big problems. This can cause mold and mildew to spread throughout your home or worse, the dissemination of animal borne bacteria, viruses, parasites and diseases into your unprotected heating and cooling ventilation system; into the very air that you and your family breath.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE TOO MUCH INSULATION?
Absolutely. In an effort to use more material, improve the insulation R value, falsely raise the R value of insulation or cut corners on labor, contractors often use inappropriate amounts of fiberglass insulation, attic insulation and other types of insulation. With all types of insulation, the insulation R value is dependent on appropriate, professional installation.
Unnecessary insulation can lead to impeded airflow, blocked air ducts, air vents, and HVAC ventilation, and compromised electrical wiring and potential fire hazards. Installing insulation, replacing insulation, removing insulation and providing insulation upgrade is what we do to insure you can heat and cool your home efficiently, safely and at the lowest cost possible.
